Dr. Bodean Hedwards is currently the Manager of Monash University’s Global Immersion Guarantee program; an Australian-first international study program that focuses on sustainable solutions to the human impact on the environment through engagement with local leaders, businesses, NGOs and government agencies in India, Indonesia, Italy, China and Malaysia. Bodean is also a criminologist, with her research focusing primarily on slavery and human trafficking across the Indo-Pacific region. She has extensive experience working on this issue across the non-government, government and university sector, including with leading organisations such as the Walk Free Foundation, the Australian Institute of Criminology, Monash University’s Trafficking and Slavery Research Group, the Rights Lab at Nottingham University and in collaboration with various UN agencies.
Bodean has been engaging with India for over 10 years, including as co-founder of ‘A Million Hands Project’, a small NGO that supported a health clinic in Lucknow and most recently as a delegate in the 2020 Australia India Youth Dialogue.
Bodean has a PhD from Monash University, during which she was a Visiting Study Fellow at Oxford University’s Refugee Studies Centre.
