Anika Singh

Anika works with the World Health Organization Regional Office for South-East Asia. She is a health communication specialist with a passion to promote social messages through various forms of art. She has conceived and delivered engaging health campaigns including that on depression, diabetes, stroke and health promotion. She has directed over 12 productions including animation videos, musicals and documentaries.

She has demonstrated leadership in community service for which she has been nationally and internationally recognized including by the former Prime Ministers H.E. Mr Deve Gowda; and H.E. Mr I.K Gujaral; and Former President of India, H.E. Dr Abdul Kalam. Based on her history of activism in community service, she was selected out of 150,000 applicants to represent India at international youth conferences, that recognized the world’s most active, innovative, and capable young leaders. The World Youth Congress series, endorsed by the United Nations, focused on youth-led development, in an effort to ‘Make Poverty History’ and promoted the role of young people in achievement of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and now the Sustainable Development Goals.

She was invited by Peace Child International, U.K. as a Guest Editor for the book “Water Rights and Wrongs: A Young People’s Summary of the UNDP Human Development Report”. She has been the managing editor of various health-related newsletters including Niramaya and Health Connect.

She previously lived and worked in Australia with the Disability Employment Services network, assisting disadvantaged members of the community through employment and support services. It was here that she developed her passion to work in the area of public health. She has also held professional positions: Board of Director, Sydney Drug Education and Counselling Centre; and Member, Executive Committee, Vivekananda Sevakendra-O- Sishu Uddyan (VSSU), a grass-root level organization giving micro-finance services and skills development training to self-help groups in rural India.

She is also the Founder, Art for Activism (AFA) movement, for which she was recognized as a young social entrepreneur and awarded by Lloyds TSB (UK) for developing a model that provided sustainable employment outcomes for artists and craftsman. Through the AFA platform, she also raised awareness on various social issues including the MDGs through workshops in schools, colleges and with youth groups.

She is also the co-founder of a successful instagram handle #Delhihai – a creative platform to express love for her city Delhi through original photography and blogs on food, places to visit, travel stories, social issues including education, environment and health. Anika particularly enjoys writing human stories and expresses herself through poetry. She is also a professional baker, and enjoys dancing and traveling.

Anika has a fire in her belly to make health information accessible to all through creative and engaging campaigns; she wants to make “Arts for Health” a movement of like-minded passionate people who want to contribute to healthier and happier lives through their artistic strengths and talents.
