Hindol Sengupta

Hindol Sengupta is Editor-at-Large for Fortune India. He is the author of five books. The latest, Recasting India: How Entrepreneurship is Revolutionizing the World’s Largest Democracy (Palgrave Macmillan) has been praised by American economists Vijay Govindarajan and Arvind Panagariya, and Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy. His earlier book, The Liberals (Harper Collins) won praise from economist and British Labour Party peer Lord Meghnad Desai as the definitive autobiography of India’s two-decade long process of opening its markets, popularly known as liberalisation. He has been a political interview show host for Bloomberg TV India, and worked as a reporter and anchor for CNBC TV-18 and CNN-IBN. He is the founder of the Whypoll Trust whose work in launching the first gender mapping of India’s capital, New Delhi, and launching the first women safety mobile app in India has been reported around the world.

Hindol is the co-founder of the first ever UN Millennium Campaign Lectures anywhere in the world in 2011, bringing together a never-before list of 11 speakers across two days including five Members of Parliament cutting across party lines and one Nobel laureate. Hindol was voted by the global ideas platform Ideamensch on their 2012 list of 33 Entrepreneurs Who Make This World A Better Place. He is the co-founder of the Indian Media Project (with Prof Andreas Mattsson of Lund University, Sweden) which will be launched in Fall 2015. Hindol is, at the moment, also researching a paper on the impact of liberalisation and technology on India’s Hindu nation.
