Professor Julian Knowles
Julian Knowles is a senior academic, composer and performer, whose research addresses the creative potential of new and emerging technologies. His creative work spans the fields of film and television music, electronic music, sound and new media arts, popular music and record production. In recent years, his music and audio/visual work has been presented at events and venues such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Experimental Intermedia in New York City, and the Sydney Opera House. Julian is frequently employed as a consultant to various arts organisations and institutions, and in 2004 he was appointed by the federal arts minister to the Music Board of the Australia Council. His current professional appointments include Chair of MusicNSW – the state peak body for the music industry in NSW. Julian has had extensive experience as a senior manager in the university sector, having served in Head of School and research leadership roles at a range of Australian universities. Since 2013, he has been a Professor of Music and Media at Macquarie University where he is Associate Dean (International) in the Faculty of Arts.
