Clare Murphy

Clare Murphy is a Melbourne-based national security and foreign policy professional experienced in engaging government, industry and academia to address 21st century policy challenges and support strong economies and communities.  

As a Business Development Adviser, International with the City of Melbourne, Clare leads engagement with India from the city with Australia’s largest Indian business and cultural community through harnessing shared strengths in tech and innovation and youth entrepreneurship. She has previously used her expertise in international relations, economic development and national security in roles with the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, Victoria Police, Austrade and Deakin University. In her previous role with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, Clare’s analysis was featured on the BBC, ABC Radio, Hack on Triple J and 3AW Radio and across Fairfax and News Corporation media.

Clare was recognised as one of Young Australians in International Affairs’ Young Women to Watch in International Affairs in 2020 and as a delegate to the 12th Australia China Youth Dialogue in 2022. She holds a Master of International Relations and Counter-Terrorism and Bachelor of Arts from Monash University where she wrote her thesis on the role of community engagement in deradicalisation. 

A council member of the Australian Institute for International Affairs’ Victoria chapter and committee member of BrigidFest which celebrates Irish-Australian women, Clare is a keen long-distance runner with sights on the Melbourne Marathon 2025 and a member of the Melbourne Football Club and Melbourne Vixens Netball Club.
